To prescribe standard and procedures in full compliance with the requirements of STCW Chapter II for mandatory minimum requirements for examination, assessment and certification of Master (MM) / Chief Mate (CM) on a seagoing ship of 500 gross tonnage or more; and

To streamline the examination, assessment, licensing and certification processes by ensuring that all candidates for Master (MM)/Chief Mate (CM) are adequately equipped and are in full compliance with the requirements of STCW, as amended.


This assessment shall apply to all candidates for certification as Master Mariner (MM) / Chief Mate (CM) on ships of 500 gross tonnage or more

Assessment Duration: 2 days

Schedule: EVERY WEEK

A candidate who already passed the Management Level-Deck practical assessment under MARINA as Chief Mate shall be EXEMPTED from this requirement, if the standard for the same Class have been passed within the last 5 years.

1. Every candidate for practical assessment of competence as Master (MM) on ships of 500 gross tonnage or more shall submit the following to the approved assessment institution, the following approved education and training:

a. If Category-A, proof of successful completion of MLCD and MLCD-AUT; or

b. If Category-B, proof of successful completion of MLCD and MLCD-BUT; or

c.  MLCD fully-compliant version to STCW 2010 Amendments;
